2. Thomas Hooker and John Elliot, the C17 Pioneers of New England, both lived at Cuckoos and started a school in it. In 1630 Hooker was called before the court of High Commission but escaped to Holland and in 1633 sailed to Boston, New England. A C17 timber-framed and plastered house. 2 storeys. At file west end the upper storey is jettied, supported on a moulded bressumer and the timber-framing is exposed on the ground storey. The windows are C20 casements. Roof tiled, hipped at the east end. (RCHM).
