Details
GOUDHURST RISEDEN LANE TQ 73 NW (east side) 5/258 Barn and stable about 20 metres north of Gatehouse GV II* Barn and stable/outhouse. C15 and C16. Timber framed and weather boarded, in part on sandstone base, with plain tiled roofs. North (entrance) elevation. Barn to right, with half hipped roof and open lean-to outshot across front, with central gable mid-storey. Two storey half hipped stable block to left, with wooden casement on 1st floor and 3 on ground floor with central recessed half door. External stair to left return to upper floor, boarded door. Carriage doors and casements to rear elevation of barn. Interior: the barn is a fine 4 bay structure with arched braced tie beams and crown posts with straight braces to collars and the beams. The 2 storey building adjacent, with stabling in ground floor and pigeon loft in 1st floor, with 3 bay clasped purlin and wind- brace roof, with eccentric bracing, of good quality, the whole heavily soot blackened; the building could have been an early cast, or external kitchen (it is at lower end of Gatehouse) or brewhouse etc.
