House and shop. C16 or earlier, altered C18 and late C19. Timber framed and weather boarded on painted brick ground floor. Plain tiled roof. Two storeys and attic, with mezzanine floor to end left, with half-hipped roof stepped down to end right to gambrel roof, with gablets. Stacks to centre left and to rear. Two-light leaded wooden casement with three-light below to left, and three glazing bar sashes on first floor, with multi-pane bow to left, with cornice and central glazing bar sash. Late C19 shop front to right, with canted plate glass bays and recessed glazed door with large canopy with valancing and cast iron posts. Half-glazed door to end left, and boarded door to centre, both with flat hoods on brackets. Right return with long canted two storey wing, with glazing bar sashes to main block with two dormer windows, wooden casements and boarded doors to rear wing. The main structure a reported cloth hall, "a barn of a building" with massive crown posts. (S T Wilson, Goudhurst Pictorial History). The shop front for William Chester Burgess (ff. c.1840-1902).
