Details
HAWKHURST WATER LANE TQ 7630-7730 (east side) 17/454 Tongswood Farmhouse with walled fore-yard GV II House. C17 or earlier. Timber framed and weather-boarded on brick and stone base, with tile hung rear wing on standstone ground floor. Plain tiled roofs. Lobby-entry plan. Two storeys with plinth and roof half-hipped to left, with stacks to centre left and at end right. Three leaded wooden casements of 4 lights on each floor with 2 lights to centre left over door of 6 raised and fielded panels with flat hood on brackets. Basement opening in brick lined open passage- way to left return. Catslide outshot to rear, and 2-storey rear wing with half- hipped roof. Projecting to the front and enclosing the front garden is a brick wall, about 3 feet high, with buttresses, rounded corners and coping bricks.
