Details
KINGS SOMBORNE MARSHCOURT SU 3533 13/1 Marshcourt Pre- Preparatory Dept and N Lodge 250m N of Marsh Court GV II Former garages and power house. 1905 by E L Lutyens, extended since. Brick, ashlar stone and flint, tile offset, weatherboarded upper, tile buttresses, old plain tile roof. Either side of drive L-shaped block of 1 1/2 storey, 7 bay block along road and to rear at house end 5 bay single storey range on higher level, with infront at house end retaining wall coming forward to constrict road. Road front has tall plinth of stone, tile offset and weatherboarded upper, except for bay of brick. On one side in all but end bay cross-window, formerly leaded, On other side similar in all but bay next to brick bay which has timber archway, planked door inside, On roof on this side hipped dormer with 2-light casement above door and high on roof in centre similar dormer but with latticed blind openings. Both roofs hipped at house end with large stack of square with half-lozenge each side section and moulded heads over 2nd bay from that end. Wings are weatherboarded on brick plinths and have tall hip-roofed central midstray porch. In road bays 2-light casements. Far bays outshot, either with similar casements and over 2 hipped dormers and 2-light casements, or open verandah. Roof hipped and sweptdown. Large ridge stack above side with dormers, double version of other stacks.
