II

Early C19. Tall gateway of two columns in antis, with lower wings on either side
comprising small rectangular lodges, from which project forward curving plain walls,
ending in piers. The Order is Greek Doric, with a full entablature (nine triglyphs to
each face), the two columns with and flutes in the upper two-thirds; the end piers
are plain with simple caps and plain plinth. The lodges face each other behind the
gateway and have recessed entrances, with a central square column and end pilasters,
the elevation having a blocking course, cornice, plain frieze, moulded caps and plain
plinth. Within the ceiling has moulded edges above a fascia. Severely plain central
doorway with a window on either side. The whole design is severely classical, and
carried out in Bath stone.
