BASING STINGERS LANE SU 65 SE 11/70 BARN AT MOORHAMS FARM
II
Threshing barn later adapted into loose boxes with farrowing pen and mangers added to North East side. Late 16th century up to the beam level with 18th century roof trusses and 19th century extension. Timberframed barn with brick infilling to North West North East and South East, including some late 16th century, some 18th century and some 19th century bricks. Weatherboarding to South West. Roof originally thatched but at time of survey covered in corrugated iron sheeting. 4 Bay barn with double cart entrance in penultimate bay. Jowled upright posts. 3rd bay has 20th century renewed tie beams with iron bolts and renewed tension braces to tie beams each side of cart entry. Roof of angled queen struts either side of cart entrance and queen posts elsewhere. Clasped purlins with no ridgepiece. Wall frame to 3 sides has midrail with diagonal tension braces. South West side has early 19th century framing. The barn is dated on the upright post to the left of the cart entrance 1733 (and TT 1816). South West side has 19th century lean-to extension. North East side has 19th century farro- wing pen and mangers which has preserved some old elm weatherboarding on the outside of the barn.
