Details
STANWAY STANWAY VILLAGE SP 0632-0732 13/127 Gateway to kitchen garden, about 22m east of north east corner of Stanway House and about 2m of adjoining wall each side GV II Gateway. Circa 1860, probably by W. Burn. Ashlar and rubble masonry. Gateway in garden wall. Facing house: boarded door, in 4-centred arch, double-ovolo moulding to arris, low-relief carving in spandrels. Door framed by plain Roman Doric pilasters set back a little, plain frieze, pediment with shell and low relief carving within. Either side short length of ashlar wall with plain coping, a little below pediment: beyond wall slightly thinner, of rubble, top swept down: step to lower level. Forms group with House and Pyramid (q.v.)..
