6/32 Cooper's Hill Farm II
Large house. Late C16-early C18 altered mid-late C18. Late C16 range ashlar with a red tile roof and C20 artificial stone stack. Late C16-early C17 range: ashlar plinth and square-panelled timber framing, now pebble-dashed; projecting ashlar stacks; stone slate roofing. Dairy/kitchen extension: limestone rubble with pantile roof and a C20 artificial stone stack. Rectangular plan to the early range with the slightly lower range added to the north gable end to form an 'L'-shaped plan. Long rectangular dairy range at the south west corner and parallel to the early range. Early ranges 2 storeys with cellar under the timber-framed part. Dairy/kitchen range: l½ storeys. West front of early range: 3- light C19 casement with transom and keystone, similar window above; fielded 6-panel door to the right. Single-light casement with a flat-chamfered surround to the gable end. Pebble-dashed range projects forwards to the right: small plank door to cellar within the limestone plinth at the gable end; tripartite sashes to the ground and first floors above, similar tripartite sash to the ground floor of the left-hand return with 2-light stone-mullioned casement below. C19 and C20 two-light casements some with transoms to the right-hand return; single storey late C18-early C19 bow window right. Three-light casement to the first floor of west facing gable, ovolo-moulded cross window below, now blocked. Dairy/kitchen range: two and 3-light casements, mostly C20; central plank door; four C20 skylights. Interior of early range: intersecting beams with deep flat chamfers. The spine beams are narrower than the beams with which they intersect; inglenook fireplace with bressumer in the same room, formerly with wooden spiral staircase rising to the right, now blocked off. Exposed square-panelled timber framing visible within the adjoining range. Panelled room with wooden frieze decorated with ornate strapwork; moulded cornice above. Over the fireplace the frieze is decorated with heraldic emblems in bold relief, possibly associated with the Guise family: two-headed bird at the centre, flanked by pairs of animals, probably a lion and a fox together with further unidentifiable heraldic motifs and flowers. Open fireplace with deep stone lintel and flat-chamfered surround in the adjoining room; two similar smaller fireplaces in upstairs rooms. Large open fireplace with bressumer and bread oven within the kitchen/dairy range. Queen post roof over stone-built early range suggests it may have been re-roofed. during the C18.
