Details

PAINSWICK SHEEPSCOMBE SO 80 NE 5/293 Bayliss House II Two houses, now one. Possibly C18, modified C19 and late C20. Coursed and squared limestone, stone slate front and concrete tile back roof slopes. Two storeys and attics, 2+2 windows, all 3-light recessed chamfer mullioned case- ments with leading and stopped hoods, and four 2-light hipped dormers with leaded casements. Left half has central 6-panel door, 4 panels fielded, in a chamfered surround to a peaked head under an open pedimented hood; right half has C20 porch and stable door, with a blocked opening to the left. Large central brick stack; small gable stacks. Left return has a 2-light casement to hood and blocked opening, under a one-light recessed chamfer mullion, originally a 3-light unit. Left hand half has lean-to across the back. Gable end to road is plain, plus a single-storey extension. Interior has some C18 stairs, a good A-frame, 2-purlin roof with C20 rafters, and modified fireplaces.
