13/76 Clayfields Mill
GV II
Former mill, now detached house. Part probably late C17; considerably rebuilt c1785 by Thames and Severn Canal Company. Coursed and random rubble limestone; various rebuilt chimneys; concrete tile roof. Four-storey; 3-storey wing at back giving L- plan. South front: 4-window fenestration, all chamfered mullioned casements, 2-light to ground and lower middle floor, 3-light to upper floors. West side: 2 upper floor former sash window openings, now with C20 casements and rendered infill above. Rear: 2 gables, both low-pitched, right set back with central projecting chimney stack, line of earlier steep gable below. Projecting gable end to left also rebuilt, considerably built up around earlier eaves-mounted chimney on west side. Interior not inspected. (N.M. Herbert, 'Bisley' in V.C.H. Glos xi, 1976, pp 4-40)
