Details

PAINSWICK PARADISE SO 81 SE 2/267 Springfield Cottage and Mulberry Cottage 21.10.55 (formerly listed as Cottage belonging to Castle Godwyn (etc)) II Detached cottage, now two dwellings. Early C18. Ashlar front, squared and coursed limestone returns, stone slate roof. An L-plan cottage, with a later build within the angle. Two storeys and attic, 3 windows; central glazed door to deep lintel under stepped drip-course embracing 3-light casements on either side; at first floor 3:2:3-light casements, all recessed chamfer mullion. Two 2-light gabled dormers. Ashlar stack with capping to right, and concrete block stack, left. Large back wings not of special interest. interior includes a peaked head opening opposite the entry, and a fine straight stair with heavy handrail, uncut string and turned balusters. The cottage lies on a stretch of the former road from the north, now bypassed by the A46.
