Details
EASTINGTON CHURCHEND SO 7805 13/58 Elm Beams and Manor Cottage (formerly listed as Churchend 10.1.55 Cottages) GV II Two cottages in one building, reputed to be part of former Eastington Manor house occupied by Stephens family, demolished 1778. Probably early C17. Rubble stone on chamfered plinth with flush quoins, stone slate roof with verges and large central stone ridge stack with offset and moulded cornice to twin flues. Single range of 2 storeys and attic with C19 single storey brick extension to right forming separate cottage and not of special interest. Elm Beams to left, Manor Cottage to right, both with 3-light stone mullion with leaded casements and square hoodmould, and with Tudor arched doorways, chamfered and stopped with quoin surrounds, with probably original studded plank door to Manor Cottage. Slightly raised 2-light in centre and 2/1/3-light across first floor. Beam ends embedded in wall at different levels are exposed, especially to Elm Beams. Rear has similar fenestration, and 2 gabled dormers on eaves to Elm Beams.
