GV II
Former corn mill and miller's house. Late C18-early C19. Coursed squared and dressed limestone; concrete tile roof; limestone rubble stacks repaired in brick. Rectangular plan to house with lean-to extension at rear. The mill building forms a long rectangular range at the right gable end of the house. C20 flat- roofed extension to the rear, not of special interest. House: 2 storeys and attic with central gable, 3-windowed entrance front lit by two and 3-light wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars and deep stone lintels. C19 four-panelled door with the upper two panels glazed off-centre right within a part-glazed, gabled slate- hung porch. Gable-end stacks. Mill building: two storeys and attic with single-storey open-fronted outbuilding far right. The mill race runs under the mill at right angles, under two round- headed arches thence issuing out from a further round-headed archway c7m south of the mill. Two 2-light casements with leaded panes and three plank doors to the ground floor. Small cast iron wheel with curved spokes projects from the wall off-centre left. Stone steps up to plank door at first floor level far right. Single light and 2-light casements to the first floor. Nearly all windows have segmental brick heads. Interior: cast iron undershot mill wheel, retaining all gearing, linked to two millstones and a sack hoist to the bin (attic) floor. Early leaded pane with scratched inscription '1811 G.H' in window on the north at first floor level. The site has been used for milling since the C11, the present mill ceased production c1940 but is still in working order. Interior of house not inspected.
