Farmhouse. Earliest part of C17, enlarged to south-east in late
C18. Rubble stone, with quoins to C18 wing, stone slate roof,
stone end stack to right and external stack to left on later
section, brick end stacks to early range. Long C17 range of single
storey and attic with cartshed to left and rear stable extension to
right, with 2-storey and attic wing of C18 added to right hand
side. C17 range has 2 small gables, each with 2-light stone
mullion and square hoodmould with leaded lights. Small lean-to on
ground floor to left with small gabled 2-light casement and timber
lintel and plank door on right hand return, and artificial stone
slate canopy to right above 2-light stone mullion with dripmould.
C18 range to right has 3 windows, 3/2/3-light casements with timber
lintel and square stone hoodmould. Two gabled dormers on eaves
with paired casements. Ground floor has 2 very large paired 6-pane
casements also with timber lintel and square hoodmould flanking
recessed central 6-panel door, top 2 glazed, rest flush, with
gabled porch hood on struts. Small lean-to on right hand return
with 2-light casement. Single storey cartshed to left, open on
north side with corrugated iron roof on this side and two bays
divided by stone wall. C17 range continues along rear of C18 range
and turns corner to make 'L'-shape with small former agricultural
building, probably a stable with flight of 12 stone steps up to
gabled loft door with entrance below platform. Scattered 2-light
windows and one dormer, some blocked, with corner plank door, on
west face of this wing. Ampney Sheephouse is reputed to have
been a possession of Tewkesbury Abbey.
