Details
SOUTH CERNEY SPINE ROAD SU 09 NE (west side) 9/268 Former road bridge on dismantled railway II Former road bridge on dismantled Midland and South-West Junction Railway, by-passed by Spine Road to east. Line opened 1870s, from Cheltenham to Andover via Swindon. Red brick with blue brick coping. Total length about 60m with 10 splayed arches rising in gentle curve with transverse supporting walls pierced by 2 round- headed and round-based hollow arches forming view from end to end. Total width about 5 or 6m. Four projecting courses of brick run above the 4 courses which form the "voussoirs". Piers at south end only. This remains an important landscape element as well as being a historic reminder of the former railway line.
