14/173 Tudor Cottage

GV II

Cottage in row. Probably late C14/early C15 core, enlarged in late C18 and C20. Random coursed rubble stone, thin-bedded on ground floor to early section, stone slate roof, renewed brick end stack to left. Single range with small rear extension not of special interest, 2 storeys and attic. Two windows, paired 8-pane casements with timber lintel to first floor, one gabled dormer with 4-pane sash. Ground floor has small recessed C20 half-glazed door to right with timber lintel and large former 3 or 4-light stone mullion window opening with square hoodmould, now filled in with stone and 6-pane margin sash with long timber lintel. Interior of ground floor front room has very large fireplace with timber bressumer, chamfered beams and joists, and stone pointed archway, formerly probably to outside, to right of door on rear wall, niche to left. Entrance originally probably on left hand return, with wood stair spiralling over it, some of ground floor stairway probably still original.
