SP 0315 WITHINGTON WITHINGTON VILLAGE 0 8/180 The Manor House (formerly listed as Manor House 23.1.52 with dovecote) GV II
Manor house. Early-mid C17, early C18 and C19. Ashlar, stone slate roof, stone stacks. C17 main body 'L'-shaped with early C18 range added on east to form almost square plan. Small successive C19 extensions forming 'L'-shape right of and projecting forwards of C18 range. Flat-chamfered plinth. 2½ storeys with cellar under south side. South front; 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement to cellar lower right. Three-windowed twin-gabled facade; 3-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned windows towards apex of gable. Two, 3 and 4-light stone-mullioned casements with transoms, continuous string over first floor and attic windows. Central C20 part-glazed double doors up 3 steps within Tuscan pedimented portico, two 12-pane sashes with horns right of portico, 6-light stone-mullioned casement with king mullion right of porch. East front (forming present entrance front); twin gables off centre left. C18 range right; 3-light stone-mullioned casements to gables, fenestration otherwise comprises two 6-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned casements with king mullions and one hollow-moulded stone-mullioned cross window. Continuous strings over ground, first floor and attic windows. C20 'Tudor'-arched plank door with studded fillets off centre right, 2-pane hall light over and plain architrave over C18 range right of twin gables with hipped roof dormer from eaves, ground and first floors lit by 2 and 3-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, the former within blocking of possible former window with plain architrave. Some windows with horizontal glazing bars, diamond leaded panes to windows lighting attics on south, rectangular leaded panes to equivalent windows on east. 1½ storey C19 extension right with 2 and 3-light roof dormers with hung tile at sides and front, single light and 2-light stone-mullioned casements to ground floor: single storey extension projecting forwards right. Roof of main body; moulded gable end coping with pointed finials and moulded kneelers. Axial and projecting gable end stacks. Twin diagonal stacks with moulded cappings to south range. Rectangular axial stack with moulded capping to north range. Roof hipped right of twin gables on east. Interior; open fireplace with plain stone surround, another with moulded 'Tudor'-arched surround (lintel replaced C20), stone fireplace with bolection moulded surround in upstairs bedroom; stone fireplace with moulded surround in attic. Tie beams with moulded stops. Original rafter and purlin roof. House formerly belonged to the Bishops of Worcester.
