SOUTHROP SOUTHROP VILLAGE SP 1903-2003 14/218 Group of 6 monuments in the churchyard approximately 8m south east of chancel to Church of St Peter GV II Five chest and one bale tomb. Early-late C18. Limestone. Group comprises: one chest tomb with fluted pilasters, moulded coping to top; inscribed to ------ READY, died 1793; 1 with rounded corners, inscribed to John Chaunler, Clerk MA, died 1739; 1 with fielded panels and coped top; and 2 with coffin-shaped copings, one with symbols of death, inscribed to JOHN CHAUNLER, died 1709, other with figure holding open book on west end, dated 1718. Bale tomb has continuous frieze and carved ends, banded bale top having shell hood ends, inscribed to members of Ready family.
