14/235 Barn approximtely 30m to
south east of Newmans House
23.1.52
GV II
Former barn and shelter sheds, now detached house. Late C18;
late C20 conversion to house. Random rubble limestone; rubble
chimneys; stone slate roof. Barn with porches to east and west
now 2-storey; shelter shed runs west, now single-storey. Parapet
gable ends to barn and to porches, south end having ball finial.
Extensive rows of pigeon holes, those to sides and porches with
ashlar bands between. Barn doorways with timber lintels and plank
doors, adapted with small shuttered casements. Columbarium
lantern with sprocketed hipped roof and ball finial to east porch.
Glazing to shelter shed recessed between timber posts. Attached
former 2-bay cartshed at south end has roof finish removed to form
pergola. Interior not inspected. Very picturesque and a good
example of a barn conversion with minimum disruption to the
exterior.
