Details

DEERHURST DEERHURST WALTON SO 82 NE 3/55 Barn and stables, Manor Farm II Barn and former stables. C15, C18, altered C19. Brick-nogged timber framing on brick plinth, irregular bond brickwork to gable, Sussex-bond brickwork to stable, slate roof. Four-bay barn, 2-bay, lofted stable. Gable to road, brick, 5 diamond-shaped air vents. Left return, brick on right, timber-framing, 2-panels high above high plinth, slots for props in existing wall in some studs, sill probably raised, boarded door to pitching hole. Double, boarded sliding doors, off centre to left; further framing. Brick rear wall of stable with lean-to against centre section. Other side stable central boarded door, timber frame, with narrow, adjoining window on right, under single cambered brick head. Interior of barn, stone paved threshing floor, 4 cruck trusses, spurs to wall post, iron wallplate tie, bolted tie-beam, with housings for collar above (since removed), yoke at ridge. One pair purlins, square ridge. Stable, horses originally tied facing gables (one being end cruck to barn). Cruck barn, walls renewed probably C18, stable added: sliding doors C19 alteration, brick nogging partly renewed on right return early C20.
