Details

SO 82 NE DEERHURST SCHOOL LANE, Lower Apperley (north side) 3/61 No 20 II Small house. Late C17; mid-late C19, possibly early C20, enlarged to rear late C20. Brick-nogged timber framing, Sussex bond brickwork, tiled roof. Four bays, 1½ storeys, one room deep; some rear extensions C20. Gable to road: heavier framing ground floor, two 2-light casements, weatherboard over each. Above lighter framing when eaves raised, 2-light casement, weatherboard over. Slightly set back on right C20 porch, boarded door, weatherboard over. Left return: first bay framing 2 panels high with shallow panel over from raising of eaves, angle struts to wallplate: 2-light casement. To left 2 timber-framed bays, framing 3 panels high to eaves, angle struts to wallplate from end posts; two 2-light casements, iron opening light to first, second wooden. Possibly blocked opening at left end. Tall, gabled dormer with 2-light casement; chimney on ridge at right end. Slightly set back on left brick bay, 3-light mullion and transom window, cambered brick head; gabled dormer over as first. Original building 2-bay, 1½ storey house with single-storey, single bay end to road: the latter raised in height mid C19, brick bay added late C19 or early C20, when new dormer added to original house.
