BIBURY A433, Arlington SP 1006-1106 (north side) 11/23 The Village Stores and Coln Cottage (previously listed as Coln 23.1.52 Stores and House adjoining) II Former house, now shop, with 2 attached houses. Late C16; mid C17 shop building. Coln Cottage probably C18. Late C19 shop fronts. Random rubble limestone; brick rebuilt chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey house; 2-storey and attic shop building projects forward with later single-storey shop addition; single- storey outbuilding to north east, now Coln Cottage. Front: 2 half gables to house with 2-window fenestration, 3-light recessed cavetto mullioned casement to ground floor left; C20 casement inserted with timber lintel to right; small stair window with hoodmould beyond. Two upper floor 2-light casements with hoodmoulds. Central recessed doorway with C20 door. Iron casements to Coln Cottage with timber lintels. Two ridge-mounted chimneys. Parallel-roofed mid C17 block built forward to left with two 2-light recessed cavetto mullioned casements to north east facing gable end with hoodmoulds. C19 shop front to ground floor; 2 C19 upper floor casements below moulded fascia. Further C19 shop front to left. Rear: gabled wing with 2-light ground and upper floor casements; small opening in gable apex. Lateral chimney to Coln Cottage. Interior: relatively un-restored retaining plank shutters to front casement. Spiral staircase now removed but doorways and shaft survive. Roof probably rebuilt in C19 or C20.
