Details
ALDBURY STOCKS ROAD SP 9612 (East side) 12/7 Farmhouse at Town Farm 30.11.66 (Formerly listed as Town Farm) GV II Farmhouse. Late C16 enlarged and floor inserted in hall before 1631, brick S bay built in late C17 when E wing added or rebuilt and rest of front heightened in timber framing, ground floor front of N part fronted in brick in C18. Timber frame with red brick infill to upper floor and casing to ground floor, and red and blue brick S end. Steep old red tile roofs. A large, T-shaped, 2-storeys, attic and cellar house on street front facing W. As symmetrical 3 windows front with 2 windows to left of gabled tiled porch to front door, in line with large internal chimney with heavy corbelled top. 3-light flush small-paned casement windows (2-light on 1st floor to left of porch). Brick front has a plinth and projecting floor band. The RH part is of chequered red and blue brick and has vertical blue brick decorative bands flanking the windows and each end, and dividing the panels between. Gauged flat arches, plastered. Blocked small window over porch. Roughcast N gable with attic window: S gable red tilehung. Interior has narrower N parlour bay one step higher with squared axial beam and chamfered joists with run-out stops. Unusually long hall bay next to S has a chamfered axial beam with bar stops and chamfered joists with ogee stops suggesting that a new elaborate inserted floor was provided when the large internal chimney, staircase behind it, and brick S extension with SE diagonal corner fireplaces on both floors were constructed in the later C17. This created a lobby entry plan house with inner room and rear kitchen wing with gable chimney. 2-panel early C18 doors in hall contemporary with brick facing to ground floor of timber framed part.
