GREAT MASSINGHAM ABBEY ROAD (west side) TF 72 SE 3/20 Abbey Farmhouse 19.10.51. (formerly listed as Abbey Farmhouse, barn and Priory remains).

G.V. II

Farmhouse, incorporating fragments of Augustinian Priory of St. Mary and St. Nicholas. Medieval and C18. Squared, coursed stucco render on stone rubble and brick, slated roofs. 3 storeys, 5 bays. 3 ground floor sashes with glazing bars, one 3 tripartite plate glass sash. 5 first and second floor sashes with glazing bars. 2 end pilasters. Doric porch has 2 brick columns, 2 wooden antae, wooden entablature, cornice and flat roof. Fine doorcase with 3 panel reveals and 2 panel soffit, all raised and fielded, arched fanlight with glazing bars. 6 panel raised and fielded door. Wooden dentil eaves cornice. Shallow pitched roof, hipped gables. 2 end, one ridge and one rear eaves stack. South gable has one ground floor domestic scale pointed arch framed with second arch, one first floor pointed arch door framed with second arch, one first floor pointed arch door, suggesting south gable of domestic range of Priory. Massive west side stack. North gable has set off buttress at west. Interior not seen.
