Country House, C16, altered in late C17. Timber frame encased in brick late
C17 with plain tiled roofs. 2 storeys and dormer attic. Cross wing to east
has central door below 6-vaned fanlight. Tripartite early C19 sash windows
to ground floor, round headed mid C19 sash above door. One tripartite sash
to south return below moulded brick string course with hood. Similar window
to first floor, both with glazing bars. Hipped roof with gabled dormer
containing casement with 'Gothick' glazing bars. Main range with 3 sash
windows each floor under keyblocked arches, That to ground floor right
converted to French window. Evidence of blocked windows. Small round-headed
light in centre first floor above string course similar, but dislocated, from
That of cross wing. 2 dormers as cross wing. Hipped roof with polygonal
ridge stack and subsidiary stack to right. West return similar but with random
C19 cross casements. External stack to north, partly obscured by C18 1½
storeyed hipped extension. Interior mostly late C.17. Sitting room with
panelled dado and deep moulded coving, drawing room contains fireplace of
c.1830 and fielded panelling. 4 C16 bridging beams exposed in kitchen. Open
well staircase through 3 storeys : moulded string and handrail on turned
balusters with square newels. Upper bedroom with 2 walls of moulded panelling
painted to initate marble, extending over fireplace and enclosing Arcadian
painting as an overmantel. Heavy modillion cornice to room. 2 further
bedrooms with panelling on first floor.
