Details
WELLINGTON ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 No 39 (Apsley House) SP 0685 SW 46/39 21.1.70 II 2. C1825-30, a substantial and impressive Grecian stucco villa, set well back from road and approached by drive terminating in carriage sweep. Two tall storeys with a 3 bay symmetrical front. Built out ground floor with plinth and channelling each side of porch. First floor has centre slightly advanced. Eaves cornice and parapet, triangular plain pediment to centre. Gable end slate roof, the gable end treated as moulded pediments; corniced stucco chimneys with ornamental pots. Plain revealed sash windows to ground floor, first floor windows in architrave surrounds with shutters; glazing bars widely spaced. The porch flanked by the built out ground floor, has fluted Ionic columns between square piers supporting entablature with balustraded front parapet and solid sides. Link wall to north side with projecting section under plain pediment, joins the 2 storey former coach house with a moulded pediment; extending north of the latter is a downswept wall terminating in the pyramid capped gate piers of the service yard.
