Details
WELLINGTON ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 No 61 SP 0684 NW 50/19 21.1.70 II GV 2. C1820-25 a fine stuccoed Grecian villa. Two storeyed 3 bay symmetrical front with additional bay splayed out to north. Flanking plain quoin pilasters but the central entrance bay has a paired Grecian Corinthian order, supporting deep entablature with acanthus scroll decorated frieze and pediment over centre. Low hipped slate roof behind parapet. Windows glazing bar sashes in eared architrave surrounds on ground floor. Portico porch with paired Soanian incised piers, segmental arch, wreaths in frieze and pediment blocking course. Architrave surround to round headed doorway, panelled reveal and soffit; 2 leaf door: marginal glazed and panelled; fanlight with looped radial pattern. The splayed additional bay has some fenestration with entablature carried over from main block. The screen wall to coach house abuts the splay with segmental arch, leading through to side stable yard. The rear garden elevation on terrace has similar details to front but with the giant order flanking each end bay surmounted by pediment. One of the earliest of the gianter scale villa designs on the Calthorpe Estate.
