Details

FORMBY SOUTHPORT OLD ROAD SD 30 NW (east side) 3/51 Formby Hall 19.7.66 G.V. II* House. C.1620 with C18 extensions and later alterations. Brick with stone dressings, stuccoed. 3 storeys, 5 bays; end bays of 2 storeys, 2nd and 4th bays break forward. Embattled parapet; end bays have flat pilaster strips, 2nd and 4th bays have rusticated quoins. Windows of 5 lights with ogee-traceried heads and large diamond panes; stucco label moulds. 2nd floor windows of 3 lights, end bay windows of 2 lights over ogee-headed blind entrances. Central canted bay with 3-light transomed windows and embattled parapet, doors removed. Rear facade has sashed windows with glazing bars, labels to ground floor windows. Cornice 1st floor. To north west a one-storey wing with embattled parapet and bowed end. To north east a square tower with embattled parapet and some small-paned casements. Interior: Central room has 2 Doric columns on south side, opposite fireplace with Doric columns and iron grate. Some C18 fireplaces, one of marble, damaged. Groined vault to central 1st floor room, early C19 grate in another room. Late C19 stair.
