GV II

House, now divided into 2. Mid to late C16. Timber-framed and rendered; old plaintiles. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics; in 2 bays with a chimney bay; jettied along front. The internal chimney-stack has a plain rectangular red brick shaft. 2 window range: 2-light casements with a single glazing-bar in flush frames to the 1st storey; 2 flat-headed dormers: with old 2-light casements to No.19, and with C20 standard casements to No.20. On the ground storey, a C20 double shop front to No.19 and a sash window to No.20 with a single vertical glazing bar in a flush cased frame. An end entrance door in a plain wood doorcase. INTERIOR: No.19 not inspected. No.20 has good timbering exposed throughout. On the ground storey an ovolo-moulded main beam and joists set flat with lamb's tongue stops. The main beam is jointed into an older cross-beam in the east wall with roll moulding and leaf stops. On the front wall, the remains of an original mullion-and-transom window with smaller side lights. Only one 3-light side window survives with ovolo-moulded mullions. A similar window on the upper storey has both side-lights surviving. Chimney-stack of C16 red brick with old mortar remaining and a plain timber lintel. The upper ceiling may be original. Roof of attic in 2-and-a-half bays has clasped purlins, cambered collars and the upper part of the rafters exposed.
