Details

LENHAM MAIDSTONE ROAD TQ 8952 (south side) 10/209 No. 5 20.10.52. GV II House and possibly shop, now house. Late C15 or early C16. Painted brick ground floor, timber-framed on first floor, with plaster infilling. Plain tile roof. 2 timber-framed bays; right side of ground floor possibly a shop. 2 storeys on plinth, with continuous jetty (underbuilt) at higher level than that of Nos. 1 and 3. First floor close-studded, but some of studs applied. Large brick ridge stack to left end. 2 single-light windows with original cills; one towards left end and one immediately to right of bay-post, with one 2-light casement to right of each. Later, blocked, door opening to right end of first floor. Door with 2 panels under shallow flat bracketted hood up one step, off-centre to right. Interior: exposed timbers including first-floor tension braces. Plain crown post with 2 upward and 2 ogee downward braces. Fragmentary evidence for possible timber stack. C18 or C19 brick stack.
