II
Barn. C16 or earlier. Timber framed, weatherboarded, with plain tile roof. 4 timber-framed bays, built at right-angles to road. Left (south-west) end bay partitioned from rest, probably originally, and floored. Hipped roof. Single door to left end. Full-height double doors to third bay from left. C17 or C18 porch to (present) rear of same bay, with boarded sides, hipped plain tile roof and full-height double doors. Later rear lean-to, flush with porch. Interior: shouldered gunstock-jowled principal posts. Cambered tie- beams, those flanking midstrey with ogee arch braces. Plain crown- posts with head braces and an irregular provision of foot braces. First truss from left end has pegged cross-beam between principal posts, with central stud and arch braces pegged between it and tie- beam and with evidence for infilling. Further pegged stud towards rear, rebated to floored side for doorway between it and rear principal post. Cross-beam morticed for closely-spaced joists of relatively large scantling to left side. Arch-bracing to walls throughout. Part of one wall retains plastered stave, straw and lath infilling above midrail. Evidence for narrower rear doorway which pre-dated porch. Sweetlands Farmhouse not listed.
