Details
NETTLESTEAD MAIDSTONE ROAD TQ 65 SE (West side) 1/12 Forge Cottages II
House, now house row. Late C17 or early C18, with later alterations. Ground floor painted brick, first floor tile-hung. Rendered first-floor gable to road. Plain tile roof. South-facing, built at right-angles to road. 2 storeys and attic. Half-hipped roof, with gablet to right. Later brick stack towards left end. Broad red brick stack set along ridge to right of centre. Two half-hipped dormers with two-light case- ments. Irregular fenestration of 3 three-light casements; one to left of left stack, one towards centre and one towards right end. Ribbed door between stacks. Boarded door to right end to Forge Cottage. Two-storey former stair turret to rear of "central" stack, tile-hung on first floor and with hipped plain-tile roof. Two-storey parallel rear range to left. Rear lean-to to right. Single-storey addition to right gable end, with rear wall flush with lean-to; painted brick, with weatherboarded gable, and plain-tile roof half-hipped to road. Further single-storey painted brick addition towards rear of right gable end of first addition, gabled to-road. Interior: only partly inspected. Exposed framing, brick fireplace with wooden bressumer, and staggered butt purlin roof without queen struts to Forge Cottage.
