6/128 Farmbuildings and waterwheel, about 200 metres South East of Dean Farmhouse -

GV II

Granary, shelter sheds and waterwheel in wheelhouse complex originally linked by shaft drive to threshing barn, cider house over cattle byre, granary over byre with attached cartshed, around foldyard. Early - mid C19. Red sandstone random rubble masonry, brick and stone dressings, slate, triple Roman and corrugated iron roofs. Waterwheel complex: "T"-plan, long shelter shed lying East- west beside pond, granary and shelter shed at right angle East end, waterwheel in wheelhouse attached South side. Shelter shed single storey originally 12 bay opening, now 6, triple Roman tile roof. Granary 2-storeys, slate roof, opening for shaft drive upper storey North front beside loft opening, shelter shed attached East side, 7 bays partially blocked. Wheelhouse, corrugated iron roof lean-to on South side projecting on West front into pond as gabled building with catslide roof, undershot cast iron waterwheel in good condition. Barn complex: main block lying North-south set into hillside with projecting wing North-west end around foldyard, threshing barn on rear elevation at South-east end. All 2 storeys, main block plus attic, cattle byre ground floor 5 bay segmental headed openings, first floor three 3-light mullions under stone relieving arches contains cider house with access ground floor level at rear up vamp, scissor truss roof. Right, gabled projection of threshing barn, double door set at ground floor level North side, firstfloor South side. To left on facade, granary over byre, 4 bay right return arched openings with circular unglazed windows in outer bays double doors first floor. Cartshed attached North side (left return) lean-to corrugated iron roof. The water powered shaft drive, probably mid C19, was unusually long and powered amongst other things the threshing machine and cider making machinery of which some remains. An unusually complete and unaltered complex.
