GV II

Pair of houses and attached area railings. 1838-39. By PF Robinson for the 4th Duke of Newcastle. Mid C19 additions and alterations, restored late C20. Stucco with slate roof and 4 side wall and single ridge stacks, coped. First floor sill band, eaves cornice and blocking course. 3 storeys plus front basement; 4 window range. Symmetrical front, facing the Park, has 4 French windows to the basement, 2 renewed. Ground floor has a cast-iron verandah with felted tent roof, covering 2 French windows to left and 2 plain sashes to right. Upper floors have plain sashes in diminishing courses, with moulded surrounds. Between the windows, giant Doric pilasters. Rear has a central canted porch, 2 storeys, with 2 doors and above, 2 sashes. To left, a canted bay window, 2 storeys. Above, 4 glazing bar sashes. Flanking the porch, 3m lengths of patterned cast-iron area railing. To right, a set back wing, mid C19, 3 storeys, single bay. This building is part of an early scheme by the 4th Duke of Newcastle to develop the Park Estate. (Get to know Nottingham: Brand K: The Park estate, Nottingham: Nottingham: 1984-: 15).
