6/199 Govett family chest tomb, in churchyard one metre West of porch, Church of St Mary -

GV II*

Chest tomb. Early C17. Sandstone and blue lias. Flat topped, cavetto moulded cornice, sunk plinth, inscribed on all faces in fine lettering but rust South face has been removed and a blue lias panel inserted. Earliest inscription on North face to John Garett, died 1618. Forms part of a group of early, finely inscribed chest tombs with the Prior family chest tomb (qv).
