ST5222 ILCHESTER CP CHURCH STREET (West side) 10/54 The Rectory and front boundary railings - - II Rectory. Earlier C19. Ham stone ashlar facade, local lias stone cut and squared to sides and rear; hipped Welsh slate roof with large eaves soffite with pairs of brackets at intervals; central lias stone chimney stack. In a villa style. Two storeys with attic, 3 bays. Sash windows of 12 panes in plain openings, no window lower bay 2. Entrance on north side, by a 6-panelled door in panelled recess, with plain timber architrave; small single-storey extension to west. Dormer window in roof on south side. Interior not seen. About 3 metres east of house, wrot iron boundary railings with collared spearpoints, set on low stone base, with cast urn finials to standards, matching pair of gates towards north end; the whole adding to the setting of the house and to the streetscape. The building purchased as a rectory in 1842, but building date not known (VCH, Vol III, 1974).
