12/126 Slades Cottage (formerly listed as one of pair of cottages 20 yards West South West of Slades Farmhouse) 19.4.61

GV II

Cottage. Possible C15 origins, largely rebuilt in C18. Local stone rubble, exposed timber lintels; thatch between coped gables; brick end and intermediate chimney stacks. Single storey with attic, 4-windows random fenestration: West end projects about 1 metre, under catslide thatch roof, East of this a C20 porch with tiled roof of same projection. Small pane casement windows, the upper two set slightly into the thatch. Interior not seen, but roof, shared with Little Slades (qv) to East reported to have four early roof trusses, probably jointed crucks. Attached on East side is Little Slades (qv) with no proper division and ground floor undersailing. (VAG Reports, unpublished SRO, 1976).
