3/9 Boleyn House

19.4.61

GV II

Detached house, C17, but with C18 and early C19 modifications. Ham stone ashlar facade, roughly cut and squared stone
to sides and rear; thatched roof between coped gables; brick chimney stacks. Two storeys with attic, 4 bays. Bays 1 and
2 have composite sash windows of 8+16+8 panes set in architraves, and in upper bay 3 a 12-pane sash to match: bay 4 has
two 3-light hollow-chamfer mullioned windows, the lower with label, rectangular-leaded with some early glass; to lower
bay 3 a Regency pattern door in architraved and wood-panelled recess. South gable has a starlight at first floor level
and an oval attic window; C20 porch to lean-to at rear; north gable has 2-light mullioned attic window without label,
some early glass, and below a single-storey extension under plain clay tiled roof, with a 3-light mullioned window
under label, presumably a re-use; a 2-light mullioned and transomed window to staircase. Interior only partly seen;
Regency pattern 6-panel doors, and early C18 staircase with turned balusters; suspected bacon-curing chamber in south
gable. (VAG Report, SRO Unpublished, May, 1981).
