SNAITH AND COWICK SNAITH ROAD SE 62 SE (south side, off) East Cowick 3/86 Dower House approximately 100 metres north-east of Cowick Hall GV II House, now offices. c1870 for Shaw family. c1980 additions to rear in matching style and materials. Red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone ashlar dressings. Welsh slate roof. 2-room central entrance-hall plan with extended wing to rear left. 2 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical. Quoins. 6- panelled door and overlight in ashlar architrave with scrolled brackets carrying cornice and hood. 12-pane sashes in ashlar architraves with sills and moulded cornices. Dentilled brick eaves course, ashlar cyma-moulded cornice. Hipped roof. End stacks. Right return has round-headed sash with margin lights, keyed arch and ashlar sill. Interior. Open well staircase with turned balusters, moulded cornices, pilastered chimney-pieces, panelled doors in architraves. Included for group value.
