Large House. c.1840 extended mid C19, altered C20. Stock brick. Shallow pitched hipped slate roof. Double-pile. 2 storeys with basements and attics. 7 window front. Central entrance: pedimented Greek Doric porch. Door set back in recess with traceried, semi-circular fanlight. Flanking entrance, 2 full height bows of 3 windows each. Tall ground floor and smaller first floor glazing bar sashes in deep reveals with yellow brick flat arched heads. Plat bands between storeys in bows. First floor central sash set in shallow recess of same shape both with yellow brick flat arched heads. Projecting eaves with panelled soffits and widely spaced paired modillions. Right return: 3 bays, central openings are blind with round arch to ground floor and segmental arch to first floor. Windows nearest front in shallow recesses as at centre front. Ground floor right canted bay. Left return: 4 bays, blind openings towards front, segmental head at first floor centre and to left a shallow recess as at centre front. Central valley to hipped roof. 2 cross axial stacks flanking central bay behind front ridges, oversailing caps. 2 axial stacks on rear pitch. Later C19 block added to rear under separate hipped roof. 5 bays with first floor central round headed staircase window. Interior: moulded hand rail and slim balusters to stair. Mid C20 Neo-Georgian outbuildings attached to rear. (RCHM Typescript).
