KIRK ELLA CHURCH LANE TA 02 NW (south side) 9/104 Kirk Ella House and attached garage (formerly listed as 31.1.67 No 14) - II
House and attached coach house, now garage. 1799, built for the Marshall family, with later additions and alterations. Stucco and painted brick with stone dressings and graduated Westmorland slate roof. Two storeys and 5 bays, 2:1:2, with central hallway plan; plus two storey, 2 bay extension to left which has advanced single storey bay to ground floor linking to taller single bay garage. House stuccoed, extensions and garage in painted brick. Plinth. Original house has wider, pedimented advanced central bay with C20 double glazed doors in plain surround flanked by similar single doors, all below a C20 bracketed hood. To either side there are pairs of sashes with glazing bars in architraves on moulded sill band with slightly projecting moulded sills. Extension to left has projecting bay with half glazed panelled door below consoled cornice, set at right angles to main facade Beyond to front the garage has wide C20 doors in partially blocked opening flanked by wide corner pilasters supporting entablature and shallow pediment over. First floor has paired 8-pane sashes with central mullion in pilastered and corniced surround to entrance bay, flanked by similar sashes to those below. Similar moulded sill band and moulded sills. Extension has two sashes with glazing bars below flat brick arches and with stone sills. Continuous moulded and bracketed cornice and similar pediment. Hipped roof with rendered ridge stack between bays 1 and 2 or original house. Rear elevation has advanced wide bay to left with shallow central bow. Adjoining to right is a smaller, slightly less advanced bay and beyond, 4 recessed bays. Left bay has wide triple opening to ground floor and tripartite sashes with glazing bars in simple architrave above. Bay to right has semi-circular headed staircase sash with glazing bars and other bays have plate glass sashes.
