House and additions, now 2 houses and a shop. C17 or earlier main range
(No. 59) and 1st extension to N of crosswing, mid C18 brick encasing or
rebuilding of crosswing on W (No. 61), early C19 brick encasing of main
range and 2nd extension to N (No. 63) on roadside. Timber frame
roughcast exposed only in E gable triangle of main range, and N gable of
1st extension. Early C19 timber frame roughcast upper part of 2nd
extension. C18 red brick in Flemish-bond with many random blue bricks to
crosswing, plum red brick to main range, sandy red brick to E side of
1st extension, painted brick along roadside to ground floor of 2nd
extension. Steep old red tile roofs, slate to 2nd extension. A 2-storeys
and attics T-plan house set back a little from road with 1½-storeys 1st
extension set lower down slope extending N from crosswing's N gable. 2nd
extension has a lean-to roofed part to N end of 1st extension and a
2-storeys part on E with roof ridge N-S. N front of No. 59 has 3 1st
floor windows under the eaves, 2 flush 3-light casements of different
heights and a low margin-light sash window on the right. 2 deeper margin
light sash windows to ground floor and blank centre where a lobby
entrance beside internal stack may have existed. Entrance to No. 59 now
on S side with a half-glazed margin-light door opposite chimney and a
plank door with margin-light glazing inserted to LH. Projecting gabled
crosswing (No. 61) has a half-glazed door with flush beaded panels and
small panes under a segmental arch up 3 steps in the front angle with
the main range. Small 2-light flush casement to right and 3-light
similar casement to 1st floor. Internal N gable chimney with small
window to attic on E of chimney. Plank door in heavy frame under
segmental arch and wide flush 2-lights casement window under similar
arch to right, in E face of 1st extension. Flush 2-lights casement
window to upper floor in N gable. 2nd extension has lobed bargeboard
with finial on N front, a wide 3-lights flush Yorkshire sliding casement
window to 1st floor and a half-glazed door at left and 2 3-lights
divided shop windows. Heavy moulded cornice above ground floor in
2-storey W part.
