LONDON ROAD 1. (South Side) 1582 Nos 174 and 176 TL 1506 NW 15/119 8.5.50.

2. Earlier C19 pair, probably by George Smith, each 2 storeys and basement, 2 windows. Flint walls with red brick dressings. Roof concealed behind parapet with 4 broad shallow serrations, each coinciding with the apex of a giant round-arched recess, forming arcaded front, The arches are dressed with red brick and have brick pilasters and stone impost blocks. 2-bay returns also arcaded. Door and window openings all round arched. Windows are recessed sashes with glazing bars, the heads of Gothick interlaced bars. Similar Gothick glazing to fanlights of 2 doors in inner bays, which have glazed upper parts, panelled pilasters and cornice heads. Basement windows are square headed and have Gothick glazing. No 176 has a one-storey, 2-window extension at left, with weatherboarded rear, and No 174 a similar extension at right. NMR
