Front screen wall at
Wheathampstead House
II
Screen wall and gateway. Mid-late C19. Red brick with
terracotta ornament. About 5 metres high and 50 metres long.
Continuous moulded coping and ornamental balustrading, all in
terracotta. The wall curves inwards both sides of an imposing
gateway comprising a double gate with an elliptical arch and
single side gates with round arches. Fluted impost course.
Terminal piers are crowned by pedestals and vases. Original
wooden gates, each with 6 fielded panels. Important focal point
at the north end of the town.
