8/52 No. 1 - GV II

House. Early C17, altered in C19. Timber frame exposed on 1st floor with plaster panels, ground floor cased in red brick in Flemish-bond with darker red dressings and dentilled course below mid-height rail of timber frame. Steep old red tile roof. A 2-storeys, 2-cells house at the corner with High Street, facing S. 2 structural bays and a narrow W bay overlapping the large formerly external gable chimney. Added external E gable chimney with tumbled offsets and 2 flues. S front has 2 windows on 1st floor plus a small window under the eaves in the chimney bay. 2 main windows on ground floor correspond to 2 on 1st floor and there is also a window and 4-panel door between. Framing of 1st floor shows main posts with long straight tension braces to these, and 2:6:6 panels. 2-lights flush casement windows with small panes. Heavy jowled posts, clasped- purlin roof. Gable end has long straight tension braces and collar. Moulded mullioned 3-lights 1st floor window in W bay at rear.
