2/9 Barn and adjoining stables at Standon Lodge Farm

GV II

Barn with stables adjoining. Late C17. Red brick with steep old red tile roofs. A tall 5-bay barn with piers under the trusses, and central gabled porch facing S. Lean-to rear protruding bay with upper part of rear wall timber framed and weatherboarded. Rows of vertical ventilation slots in the walls and 6 rows in the W gable below the gable parapet with corbelled kneelers. King- post trusses of pegged construction with diagonal struts support 2 butt-purlins in each slope, staggered in line. 2 lower 2- storeys brick stable buildings extending in line to N from W end of rear wall of barn. Raised floor band. Stable doors and cross-window under segmental arch. 4-panel door into upper floor, smaller window to right and door below. End building lower with twin high segmental arched blocked openings in gable end with floor band and opening over, as if for coach house with hay-store over.
