House, now 2 houses. Circa 1500 open hall house, W part C19 and later C20. Timber frame roughcast, white weatherboarding to E bay, matching roughcast extensions at W, and continuous steep thatched roof hipped at E. Originally a 4-bay open hall house facing N, it still has a soot-blackened roof structure, with framing for W hip and gablet preserved. Solar at E end with heavy flat axial joists and steep stair against rear wall, and trimmed stair opening in SW corner of former service room at W. Curved tension braces in rear wall and in partition at upper end of hall. Curved wind braces to central truss of hall (tie-beam cut away). Large internal chimney with back-to-back fireplaces, and formerly an oven, inserted in lower bay of hall in C18 and lower part of W partition of hall cut away. Hall floored and rear dormer inserted. Divided in C19 sharing central chimney. No.1 at E. A most interesting survival of a late medieval small open hall house. (Bailey (1980)18).
