5/21 Baker Tomb in St. Mary's churchyard 25M to NNW of nave

GV II

Tomb. Circa 1871 to Baker family of Bayfordbury. Limestone. A large square paved platform with stone surround slightly higher, on site of former church. Paved approach and one step on S offset for raised tomb with large cross lying on top. On centre of platform a large square plinth with chamfered base and a carved stone chest tomb with moulded base, panelled sides (with Lombardic inscription on N and E sides) between small shields in trefoil headed niches. Regular flower scroll carved on underside of projecting top slab. On top a rectangular moulded slab, weathered on top and carved in shape of a cross.
