Details
WEST ROAD 1. 5253 (South Side) Little Beazleys TL 467 153:4/12 6.6.52 II 2. C17 or earlier. Date '1662 TD' over door may be secondary. 1½ storey timberframed house weatherboarded under steep thatched half hipped roof with large central chimney rebuilt above ridge. 2 windows front with central plank door. Modern wood casement windows. Entrance beside chimney with kitchen on E and parlour on W. Large open fireplace in E room with heavy roll moulded fireplace lintol with pyramid stop at S end. If this is original, the building may be C16 which is suggested by 2 soot blackened rafters surviving at W end of the purlin roof. Floor structure of axial beams and exposed squared joists may have been inserted with stair in 1662. Thin bricks in chimney may-be earlier. There is a bread oven at the rear of the kitchen fireplace. Mullioned front windows were noted by RCHM in 1911 (RCHM (1911) 204), now gone.
